Next-Generation Series C I/O Expands Turbomachinery Control Capabilities
Honeywell has introduced the CC-PSV201 Servo Valve Positioner Module (SVPM) , the latest addition to its Experion Series C Turbomachinery I/O platform. Designed for R511 and later releases, the CC-PSV201 addresses the growing demand for faster, more reliable valve positioning in critical rotating machinery. The module is part of Honeywell’s ongoing effort to reduce cabinet footprint while enhancing control precision and system diagnostics.
Technical Deep Dive-Precision Meets Speed
The CC-PSV201 integrates an onboard PID positioning loop with a total loop latency of <10 ms, enabling real-time correction for servo valves. Key specifications engineers should note include:
Servo output: 2 channels, bipolar current (10-320 mA) or unipolar (50–300 mA), with 16-bit DAC resolution.
Dither: 0-10% of full scale, 25-60 Hz to compensate for valve stiction.
LVDT interface: Supports 3/4/5/6-wire feedback, 2.5-3.2 kHz excitation, 8 V RMS max.
Analog I/O (optional) : 2 AI channels (0-5V, 1-5V, 0.4-2V, or 4-20 mA) and 2 AO channels (4-20 mA) -mutually exclusive with LVDT and servo.
Diagnostics: Open-wire detection, LVDT core fallout, readback current monitoring, and power supply/memory checks.
Redundancy: Supported via CC-TSV211 redundant IOTA (18-inch form factor).
Application Areas-Where the CC-PSV201 Excels
This CC-PSV201 module is purpose-built for turbomachinery control applications requiring high integrity and fast response:
Steam turbine governor control- precise positioning of servo-actuated inlet valves.
Centrifugal compressor antisurge control-rapid valve modulation to avoid surge events.
Gas turbine fuel control valves-closed-loop positioning with LVDT feedback.
Hydraulic actuator positioningbidirectional/unidirectional current output for servo valves.
Engineers working on critical rotating equipment will benefit from the module’s ability to drive outputs to a safe value upon detecting abnormal conditions (e.g., loss of feedback or communication failure).
Matching Part Numbers and System Integration
For correct ordering and integration, use the following Honeywell part numbers:
SVPM IOM (main module): CC-PSV201 - Description: Servo Valve Positioner, 2 valves
Redundant IOTA: CC-TSV211 - Description: 18-inch IOTA for redundant configuration
Recommendation for engineers:
For new safety-critical or high-availability installations, always pair two CC-PSV201 modules with a CC-TSV211 IOTA to achieve true redundancy without external cabling.
When using 4-20 mA field transmitters instead of LVDT, configure the AI channels accordingly – note that AI and LVDT cannot be used simultaneously on the same channel.
Pay attention to maximum resistive load for servo outputs: verify coil resistance against the allowed ranges in Honeywell’s DFS document.
Leverage the readback current diagnostics to detect open circuits or degraded coil health proactively.
