What is the purpose of the DC link connection, and why is the cable length limited?
A: The DC link connection allows for the direct attachment of an external braking module or braking resistor. When a motor decelerates rapidly, it regenerates energy back to the drive, raising the DC link voltage. The external resistor dissipates this excess energy as heat. The 10 m cable length limit is critical to minimize parasitic inductance, which could cause voltage overshoots and potentially damage the drive's internal components or the connected resistor.
Why does this higher-power module have significantly longer permissible motor cable lengths than the FSB frame size modules?
A: Larger, higher-power modules typically feature more robust output stages and internal filtering designed to mitigate the effects of cable capacitance and reflected voltage waves. The FSD frame size allows for 200 m shielded and 300 m unshielded cables, compared to the much shorter limits on smaller FSB modules. This enables the drive to be installed further from the motor in larger facilities.
This module has a much higher displacement factor (cos φ = 0.99) and efficiency than smaller models. Why?
A: Higher-power drives inherently operate with a better fundamental power factor at their rated load. The displacement factor (cos φ) is primarily determined by the line-side rectifier, and its contribution to the total power factor (λ) becomes more dominant and closer to unity at higher power levels. The efficiency is also higher (0.98 vs. 0.97) because the proportion of fixed losses (like control electronics and fan power) relative to total throughput is smaller in a higher-power drive.
